Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
